General Street Tree Regulations and Standards

Spacing Requirements for Curb/Tree Lawn Trees

.)  No tree shall be placed in a tree lawn site that measures less than 4 foot in width.

.)  All trees being planted in a tree lawn measuring 8 feet or less should be centered.

.)  Only small sized trees are permissible below overhead power lines.

.)  All newly planted trees should be spaced a minimum of 10 feet away from all driveway or alley entrances, utility poles, street signs, and fire hydrants.

.)  No tree shall be placed within 35 feet of any intersecting roadway.

.)  No tree shall be planted within 35 feet of any stop sign.

.)  No tree shall be planted within 10 feet of any building or structure.

.)  All newly planted trees should be spaced a minimum of 5 feet from all underground utility lines.

.)  Newly planted street trees must measure more than 1-3/4 inches in trunk diameter/caliper.

.) Prior to any tree planting or stump removal project, the Ohio Utilities Prtection Servic (1-800-362-2764) must be notified along with our Water Department so that all utilities will be marked well in advance.

.) To promote diversification within our tree population we want to introduce new tree species to the Village and never allow any one species to make up more than 15% of our total tree population.

.) Topping trees is an unacceptable pruning practice and therefore prohibited.

Reminder:  We ask all village residents who wish to plant, prune, or remove any tree in the curb lawn to contact the Shade Tree Commission. Permits must be approved before any work can begin. Permits are not required on private property.
