Driveway Culvert Permits

All driveways entering a Village road right of way, shall have a driveway culvert installed to facilitate roadway drainage.

The Village Administrator or the Village Street Department Superintendent shall determine driveway culvert size.

The Village Street Department will install driveway culvert when:
     1) A valid permit has been issued to the property owner.
     2) The property owner supplies the culvert. (Size determined by the Administrator or Street Department Superintendent.)
     3) If the Village supplies the culvert pipe, property owner shall reimburse the Village upon receipt of bill from Village.
     4) The Village is doing work in the area of the culvert.
     5) Property owner pays for the culvert; the Village will provide backfill material and install the culvert free of charge.
     6) The Village will install up to:
                30 feet of driveway culvert for residential driveways.
                40 feet of driveway culvert for commercial driveways.

A private contractor may install driveway culverts when:
     1) A valid permit has been issued to the property owner.
     2) The property owner or contractor supplies the culvert. (Size determined by the Administrator or Street Department Superintendent)
     3) The property owner needs the installation before the Village can perform the work.
     4) The property owner pays all the costs.

NOTE: If a private contractor installs the driveway culvert, the Administrator or Street Department Superintendent must be called to inspect the installation before the contractor can backfill the trench. Failure to have the installation inspected prior to backfilling, may result in the Village removing the driveway culvert.

Driveway Culvert Materials

The property owner shall provide one of the following types of culvert:
     1) Double walled, smooth lined, polyethylene plastic pipe.
     2) Single walled, corrugated metal pipe.
     3) Reinforced concrete pipe.

Maintenance

After installation of the culvert, all future maintenance becomes the responsibility of the property owner. The Village will in no way be held for any future maintenance.

Driveway Culvert Exceptions

A driveway culvert may not be needed if the driveway is located on the crest of a hill.
