Employee Background

Tom Long is the Superintendent for the Street Department. He has worked for the Village since 1987. He started out as a part-time laborer before working his way to equipment operator. As equipment operator he then began operating the backhoe and driving truck. He was promoted to Superintendent in 1998. Some of his duties include backhoe operator, truck driver, setting up road repairs, preparing, mapping and engineering the installation of catch basins and culverts. Tom also handles the inspections of culverts and road repairs done by outside contractors in the Village. He also works with the county on scheduling the chip and seal program for the village streets. Tom is responsible for purchase orders for items bought by the Street Department, employee timecards, scheduling community service work, doing maintenance repairs on equipment, pricing and ordering equipment.He works with council and the administrator on the Street Department's yearly budget and equipment replacement program. Tom also works on articles for the Village newsletter.
