Did you know that a mature tree can be worth thousands of dollars? And not just for lumber: living trees provide shade which helps reduce cooling costs; intercept rainwater, reducing erosion and runoff; and add anywhere from a 3% to 15% increase in property value, to name just a few economic benefits. Trees that are growing in the curb lawn (the area between the sidewalk and street) or right of way (approximately 6 - 10 feet from the edge of the road where there is no sidewalk) of Village streets belong to the Village. So, just a reminder that before you remove any Village tree you must get a permit from the Village Shade Tree Commission. There is no cost for the permit. A permit is also required before you plant any trees or shrubs in the curb lawn or right of way.
If you are interested in planting a tree or shrub in the curb lawn or right of way, please contact Jeff Schreiber. I have a number of seedlings available for free.
